The following is a press release from Pearl River Community College:

RiverRoad and The JazzCats wrapped up their 2011-12 season April 3, with their spring concert on the Poplarville campus of  Pearl River Community College.

The RiverRoad showchoir’s performance included Earth Wind and Fire Megamix,  Beautiful Day, If You’re Out There, Dynamite and More.

Soloists were Ryan Morris and Chancellor Montgomery, both of Columbia; Michael Boyte of Sumrall, Claire Loper of Lumberton and Justin Taylor of Brooklyn.

Under the direction of LaDona Tyson, RiverRoad is made up of 28 students selected by audition.

The JazzCats band is directed by Archie Rawls, chair of the Department of Fine Arts and Communication, and Mike Bass, assistant band director.

The band’s program included Choo Choo Ch’Boogie, Larry’s Latin Lunch, Pure and Simple, Four, Emergency Stopping Only, No Spring Chicken, Take What You Need, Sway (Quien Sera), Straighten Up and Fly Right and Vehicle.

In addition to Morris, Boyte, Loper, Taylor and Montgomery, members of RiverRoad are Bailey Welsh, Lillian Clark, Lauren Bryant, Chasity Hawthorne and Danielle Rogers, all of Petal; Keagan Johnson, Elizabeth Smith, Leighton Cheramie, Cody Stroupe, Jared Priest and Garrett Foulon, all of Carriere; Hannah Pierce, Brittany Fortenberry, Michael Sapen and Taylor Crosby, all of Columbia; Kaleb Killens and Alexx Kennedy, both of Poplarville; Dakota Youngblood of Lumberton; Creighton Holder of Brooklyn; Drew Hedgepeth of Picayune, N’Kisa Lewis of Oak Grove, Mariah LeBlanc of Purvis and Danielle Moray of Pearl River, La.

Playing in the RiverRoad band are Aaron Carden of Lucedale, trumpet; Adam Mixon of Sumrall, trombone; Stephen Berry of Columbia, saxophone; Brandon Hutchison of Picayune, drums; John Fisher of Poplarville, bass guitar; Jacob Cochran of Poplarville, synthesizer; PRCC music instructors Hope McKellip, piano, and Mike Bass, trumpet. Crew members are Taylor Trigg of Petal, Matt Lander of Picayune and Stephen Smith of Poplarville.

The JazzCats musicians are Berry and Boyte, alto saxophone; John Eation of Columbia and Paul Ferguson of Poplarville, tenor sax; Michael Spotts of Hancock, baritone sax; Carden, Kristy Noble of Gulfport, Chris Fletcher of Columbia and Patrick Delancey of Sumrall, trumpets; Mixon and Stephen Chaisson of Sumrall, Jheri Alford of Hattiesburg and Kevin Shelby of Atlanta, trombones; Allen Grace of Hattiesburg, bass trombone; Pierce, piano; Holder, piano and vibes; Fisher, bass and guitar; Jeffery James of Lumberton, guitar and auxiliary percussion; Hutchinson, drums; Haley Jones of Carriere, vocalist.
