Thriffiley New Director-Liaison for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

Lhay Browning Thriffiley has been chosen as the new director-liaison for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at The University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

Thriffiley is a graduate of the Master of Science in Economic Development program at Southern Miss, where she excelled in graduate level classes in grant writing, nonprofit leadership and administration studies. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in arts-based program development, creating a children’s summer camp program as her senior capstone.

Dr. Tommy King, president of William Carey University, introducing Geroldean McSwain Dyse, CEO of the Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Inc., before presenting her with The Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters during one of the university’s four commencement ceremonies in Smith Auditorium.

A native of New Augusta, she was the second nurse ever hired by SeMRHI in 1980, and she rose through the ranks from licensed practical nurse and health educator to chief operating officer to CEO by 2011.

Albert Galeas, a 2012 graduate of William Carey University and current Spanish teacher at N.R. Burger Middle School, was recently named District New Teacher of the Year for the Hattiesburg Public School District. Galeas, who teaches 7th and 8th grade students, began teaching at N.R. Burger in August. The award was presented by Hattiesburg Public School District Superintendent James Q. Bacchus during a ceremony at Hattiesburg High School of May 1.

Wesley Medical Center Names Lee Byrd Director of Laboratory Services

Wesley Medical Center recently named Lee Byrd Director of Laboratory Services. Byrd has been employed with Wesley Medical Center since 2008 and has served as Interim Laboratory Director since Nov. 26, 2012.

Byrd brings 23 years of clinical experience to the position, including previous experience as a lab director. He is certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)CM and a Technologist in Hematology by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and has also been certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the National Crediting Agency.
