LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- Oak Grove High School has a record number of students who are National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists this year. The school was notified last week that 11 seniors have met the requirements, based on the results of their Preliminary-SAT tests taken during their junior year.
Those students are now preparing to take SATs again in October to qualify as finalists.
"I'm proud that I can represent my school in a positive way and that I was part of the group that helped Oak Grove rise above in our district," said Anna Schwartz, one of the semi-finalists.
"It's not an easy task and we're very proud that they're willing to work that hard and their families support them," said Helen Price, principal of Oak Grove High School.
Oak Grove had 9 National Merit semi-finalists in both 2007 and 2009.
