Boil Water notice issued for Bellewood Subdivision

LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- The North Lamar Water Association has issued a boil water notice for all of Bellewood Subdivision until further notice. 

It was issued just before 3 p.m. Saturday. 

Officials with the association say a break in a main water line prompted the notice. 

They also say repairs are underway.

Hollywood continues to come to Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- As the independent film, The Historian, continues on its third day of filming, the well-known Hollywood faces keep coming to Hattiesburg.

Iron Man 3 William Sadler, Falling Skies Colin Cunningham, and Ode to Billie Joe Glynnis O'Connor are now in the Hub City.

Though many might wonder what exactly is it that attracts the actors to this film.

"It was the writing,” said Sadler. “The writing was really good."

“The script was wonderful,” said Cunningham.

Purvis house fire death now ruled a homicide, suspect captured

A house fire in Purvis that resulted in the death of an elderly woman is now a homicide investigation.

Timothy Taylor, 36, of Purvis was denied bond Tuesday by Judge Bill Anderson and charged with first degree arson and murder.

Taylor was arrested at his residence in Purvis around midnight, just a few hours after a home in the 600 block of First Avenue went up in flames.

Woman dies in Purvis house fire, oxygen tanks explode

PURVIS, MS (WDAM)- A fire claimed the life of an elderly woman in Purvis late Monday evening.

A home on the 600 block of 1st Avenue in Purvis became fully engulfed in flames at approximately 9:30 p.m.

EOC Director James Smith and Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel confirmed that there were some oxygen tanks in the house that were exploding while firefighters were trying to control the blaze.

Firefighters from all ends of Lamar county responded and they were able to extinguish the fire just before 11 p.m.

Feb. 10 tornado causes $7 million in damage to Oak Grove High School

Lamar County School District officials said a Feb. 10 tornado caused $7 million in damage to Oak Grove High and its baseball and football facilities.

The district has a $50,000 insurance deductible it hopes to have covered by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

The baseball facility should be ready in time for the 2014 baseball season and the football field house will be ready by August that year.
